Concept Diagram – HERO

  • Recently, in class, you created Concept Diagrams defining the word "hero". How do you feel about this definition? Is it an accurate reflection of what you truely feel is the definition of hero? Does it match your own personal hero? If so, how is your hero like the definition you came up with. If not, why is your hero different from the definition you came up with?

“The Passing of Arthur”

Some of you noticed connections in the poem, "The Passing of Arthur" to other legends or stories. The similarites between the legend of King Arthur and some events in the life of Jesus were pointed out. Also noted were the similarities between King Arthur's "death" and the "death" of Hercules. Also, as we saw with Dr.Martin Luther King's, "I Have a Dream", pieces of literature sometimes make allusions to other pieces of literature. What connections did you find in "The Death of Arthur" either to other pieces of literature, legends or your own life? How did these connections assist in your understanding of the poem? Did they make the poem more meainginful or relevant for you?

Enduring Understandings & Essential Questions

With every unit we have Understanding and Questions that guide our studies. I would like you to reflect on the Understandings and Questions for Unit Five, Hero's, Quests and Bravery. Some points to reflect on… What personal meaning does the Understanding/Question have for you? How can you relate this personal meaning to the literature we've read? Does this personal meaning enhance the literature for you? If not, why?
